Overview:
Performance Testing frequently generates very large volumes of data. That data usually requires significant analysis before findings are made and recommendations are delivered. To make matters more complex, even though there is a large volume of data, there are typically an insignificant number of tests conducted for most data reduction methods to be statistically valid. Worse still, many of the statistical methods that are frequently used are either mis-used or mis-understood.
This 2 day course focuses on making sense out of performance test data to improve findings and recommendations for the purposes of achieving business objectives, reducing project risk, and avoiding bad press. Along the way, you'll get to learn and practice methods for visually reporting performance test results that are less prone to misinterpretation than complex statistics or massive spreadsheets your audience is unlikely to understand. As an added bonus, this workshop provides you with the knowledge you need to avoid the most common statistics errors in performance testing, and even to use some statistics correctly to help you understand the data.
Who is the Ideal Student
This version of the PTSS series of workshops is targeted for anyone who analyzes and/or reports on performance test results data.
Course Objectives:
In this course, you will:
- Be introduced to nine core principles found in most successful performance testing projects
- Learn when and how to use statistical methods when analyzing and reporting performance test data
- Practice applying data analysis techniques you already know, but likely aren't using, to performance test data analysis through the use of a variety of board game accessories.
- Learn the relevance of performance testing objectives to analyzing and reporting performance test data
- Learn how to communicate performance test results and findings to non-performance testers visually
- Work in teams to create visual reports from actual performance test data
Format and Agenda
As a dynamic, interactive, tool and process neutral, exercise centric workshop, students can expect the content and the time spent on each topic to be customized to the needs, interests, and personalities of each class. In general, students can expect that the course will follow the course outline in sequence because the major exercises build on one another in a manner inspired by the progression of actual projects.
